Any Fashion Week brings new trends and professionals who are shining in the fashionista world. But certain talents require the ability of a true treasure hunters to be found. It’s the case of brazilian Alexandra Dohmen.
Born in 1967 in the state of Paraná in Brazil, Alexandra studied Fashion Design at the Maastricht Academy for Fine Arts and Design and at the Akademie Vogue in Amsterdam.
Alexandra is a complete professional, she is designer, produces her own fabric on her atelier, also is a wonderful photographer and painter. Her extensive experience in the area has been highlighted in fashion events that happen in the Netherlands.
She designed several pieces for the 2011 Heiligdomsvaart FashionClash Fashion Procession, a procession during which the relics of Saint Servatius are carried through the historic city center of Maastricht.
One of her designs, which was based on the clothing worn traditionally in the Zuiderzee region, was exhibited at the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen, and she won second place in the Bernina design contest with a mini version of a traditional Staphorst costume.
Alexandra Dohmen was also one of the nominees of the Krefeld Fashion World competition with a design inspired by tradional Schaumburger garb.
This year she was selected for the 2013 Dutch Fashion Meets Marrakech Contest. In a dazzling show, she and nine other designers were allowed to show their collections on the catwalk in Marrakech. Her collection incorporated both western and Moroccan style elements.
