50 dresses that changed Fashion – Part 2

From a selection by Marie Claire’s Suzannah Ramsdale, Amsterdam Fashion TV presents 50 groundbreaking dresses that changed fashion and captured a moment in time.

These are 5 dresses that changed the fashion world forever…

45. Angelina Jolie’s leg-revealing dress
The Atelier Versace gown that Ange wore to the 2012 Oscars was undoubtedly stunning, but it was the star’s exaggerated pose (sticking her right leg through the split unnaturally far) that caused a Twitter account to be set up in her honour and Photoshopped images of her leg to go viral.
44. The Swan Dress
The swan dress that Bjork wore to the 2001 Oscars will never be forgotten. Created by Macedonian designer Marjan Pejoski, it was certainly a bold move.
43. Grace Jones in Keith Haring
Andy Warhol introduced Grace Jones and Keith Haring in the mid-eighties and, though the pair worked together on many projects (Grace became a sort of human canvas for Haring), it was the 20ft Haring dress that the singer wore to a New Year’s Eve party in 1987 that most people remember.

42. Isabella Blow in Alexander McQueen
To Isabella Blow the fashion world is eternally grateful. She was the first person to truly recognise the designer’s talents and when she bought every single piece from his 1992 graduate collection she set him on the path to creating some of the most incredible fashion moments of all time.
41. Matthew Williamson’s electric angels dresses
The designer’s debut collection saw the likes of Kate Moss, Helena Christensen and Jade Jagger parade down the runway at London Fashion Week September in 1997 wearing bias-cut dresses in tangerine, fuscia and magenta. The show lasted seven minutes and featured just 14 dresses, but the impact on the fashion world was huge.
Stay tuned: tomorrow five more dresses that changed fashion!
