Those who happen to be in London next weekend are lucky to catch the launch of the Selfridges’ new fashion project and join them for the major celebration of beauty. fashion and talent. The AW14 fashion project entitled ‘The Masters’ is a way of paying a tribute and celebrating some of the most successful and unique design talents on the planet. This tribute is promised to be enormous and absolutely spectacular.‘From exclusive archival pieces to bespoke fashion films, get ready to discover our tribute to fashion’s most successful,’ Selfridges said in a statement.’
Each of the 12 honoured designers is celebrated for their own “specific mastercraft or handwriting”. According to the iconic, Azzedine Alaïa The Master of Architecture, and Oscar de la Renta has been declared The Master of Elegance, and so on.
Each designer will take over one of the window displays of the Oxford Street facade inspired by a film narrative or genre – from sci-fi to film noir. The Masters are also to create an exclusive piece (a Masterpiece) or capsule collection in their signature style to be sold in the iconic department store.
Selfridges is also planning on opening the world’s first in-store cinema, showing film that has served as an inspiration to each of “Masters”.
Rick Owens, an acclaimed Master of the Elements, will also get celebrated for the 20-year anniversary of the brand. The designer will create a special special 20 piece capsule collection of women’s and men’s ready-to-wear and accessories. In addition to Owen-themed windows, a 25 ft (in case you’re wondering, that is almost 8 meters!) statue of the designer will be installed above the iconic Selfridges London canopy.
