Today, Bruce Jenner appeared for the first time as Caitlyn Jenner on the July cover of Vanity Fair. The unveiling was not only historic for transgender people across the globe; it was also a big moment for fashion designers whose dresses Jenner wore in the epic shoot.

Jenner wore looks from Badgley Mischka, Zac Posen, and Herve Leger in the Annie Leibovitz shoot, which took place in Los Angeles. We spoke to some designers to find out what they had to say about outfitting Jenner for a cover that will go down in history.
“I’m very proud to be included in the roster of chosen designers for such a historic moment captured by the iconic Annie Leibovitz,” Zac Posen told Glamour . “I think the most important message that comes from this is to be who you are and feel beautiful in your skin.”
Upon seeing Jenner wearing a signature Herve Leger bandage top and skirt, chief creative officer Lubov Azria quoted Ralph Ellison in The Invisible Man to echo her sentiments: “’When I discover who I am, I’ll be free. We are honored to be a part of this empowering moment.”
