Jean Paul Gaultier’s spring couture show 2016 (Paris), a homage and inspired by the legendary Paris nightclub Le Palace. The Palace was to the Parisians what Studio 54 was to New Yorkers. (Paris’ go-to disco in the late 70s and 80s “Everyone was there – Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld. It’s sad, because in Paris today you don’t have a place like that anymore).
This collection was filled with Gaultier’s well known tropes: androgyny, irony, sexuality, a fantastic blend of loungewear, Eighties tailoring and metallic shine, boudoir elements, silk robes, bra tops and lacy slipdresses. Models with big curly hair and bright red lipstick. Gaultier’s runways are always a party and this one was a veritable smash: jam packed with sixty-seven ensembles. He brings great happiness and pleasure to fashion.
