Viktor&Rolf for Zalando RE:CYCLE is crafted with the notion of sustainable style, and it is a natural evolution from Viktor&Rolf’s latest Haute Couture collections. For this collaboration, Viktor&Rolf have lovingly reworked Zalando’s overstock fabric into something new and artistic. Every style of the limited collection is created with applications made of recycled materials. The 17-piece womenswear collection features everything from T-shirts to dresses to skirts, all reworked with Viktor&Rolf’s avant-garde handwriting. The collection’s price-points are accessible ranging from 50€ to 250€, making sustainable style with substance an option for all.

A playful short film created especially for the collection captures the essence of the Viktor&Rolf for Zalando creative recycling methods, and details the process of transformation with symbolic gestures such as shredding and popping corn. Old clothing staples are charmingly frayed, torn and cut until they rain down like confetti into the four key shapes of the limited collection: circles, bows, diamonds, and shreds. These key shapes crafted from recycled materials are then wondrously reworked into the artistic pieces which make up the final RE:CYCLE range.

On the collaboration, Viktor&Rolf said: “For us, Haute Couture has always been a laboratory for experimentation. With our past Haute Couture collections, we have explored creative recycling methods: new, artistic ways to re-use elements from the past to create something new. For instance, fabrics from our own archive of 20 years were woven and patch-worked into new materials and volumes; and fragments of existing cocktail and evening wear from the 20th century were surrealistically reassembled to create new, unexpected shapes. With our upcoming collaboration with Zalando, we are excited to bring forth this spirit of sustainable fashion in a bold and accessible way by breathing new life into forgotten garments.”

This latest designer collaboration for Zalando marks the online platform’s first collection with a focus on sustainability. “By teaming up with Viktor&Rolf we are offering our consumers a conscious style. It is incredible to see how Viktor&Rolf transform old garments into something new and beautiful. It prolongs the lifecycle of fashion. Their creations go beyond haute couture, which fits our purpose to reimagine fashion for the good of all”, commented Jolanda Smit, Director of Group Brand Relations Marketing.

Zalando sees the opportunity to reimagine fashion for the good of all and want to engage its employees, customers and partners in finding more sustainable ways to produce fashion, consume, and do business. In 2016 Zalando started extending its range of sustainable products while improving the information on the website. Many other initiatives such as reducing its environmental footprint are being actioned as well as offering faux fur and no exotic skins.
