WUNDERKAMMER
Fall/Winter 2018 collection
Curiosities, antique relics, private treasures, mystical objects – this melting pot of ideas inspired Creative Director Christian Alexander Beck in the new AIGNER fall/winter 2018 collection. The ‚cabinet of wonders‘ of the late renaissance and baroque was the precursor to modern-day museums: extraordinary objects with different backgrounds and purposes were presented together here. This resulted in exciting contrasts between the familiar and unknown, real and surreal, opulence and minimalism. Prints and embroidery from distant lands and ocelot patterns meet clean shapes and surfaces. Materials are mixed or intricate details combined with rough fittings and metal parts.
The clothings’ of the „Wunderkammer“ collection are a beautiful composition of inspirations taken from ancient art and travels, different origins to create a fascinating ensemble. The models’ hairstyle in the show combines Old Hollywood glam waves on the top with an undone sleek look in the lower part of the hair. The make-up is kept in natural bronze colors with a gold shimmer.
20‘s dressing gowns inspiration, kimono sleeves and some 90‘s sweater vibes with embroidery, prints and lurex fringes give the collection a rich, opulent touch. Pants are super skinny leggings, or extra wide with bow details at the ankle, or even classical pleat-front trousers with a tapered fit.
Outerwear is mostly parkers, bikers or big coats, in black crinkle patent, checked wool in black/camel, oversized in heavy oriental brocade, oversized bikers in brocade with sequin sleeves or embroidered with portuguese tile designs or lurex floral ornaments. Lurex fringes give impressive details to some styles, highlighting the idea of mix & match throughout the collection such as the combining of sequin turtlenecks with hoodies and a big biker jacket with embroidered details. Patterns from the bags are found again on fancy sweaters, which make streetstyle not only more comfortable, but also more stylish. The shoes with metal heels and platforms make a nice contrast to the sporty casual parts and elegant styles.
The color palette is strong and soft at the same time, intensive colors such as ‘Persian Blue’, ‘Amber Orange’, ‘Scarlet Red’ and ‘Olive Green’ are contrasted to muted tones such as ‘Linen White’, ‘Burgundy’, ‘Camel Beige’ and ‘Clay Brown’. This combination adds a mystical touch to the collection and skillfully reflects the ‘Wunderkammer’ theme.
Focus on the leather collection which perfectly matches with this theme, here the highlights:
CYBILL SPECIAL
As an important element of the collection, the signature bag from AIGNER, besides the already established models, comes in two new highlight versions: as ‘Cybill Fiera’ with ocelot pony fur and as ’Cybill Velluto’ with an elegant velvet look in three colours. This version is inspired by the opulence of the art deco of the 1920s and the casualness of the 1970s. With the coin-adorned strap, it also skilfully picks up on the collection’s theme and creates oriental flair.
EMILIA
The exclusive collection stands out with its mix of materials with the finest Italian grain leather and soft suede. Many metal parts, such as elaborate fittings as a handle attachment or decoratively-used buckles, determine the look of the series and emphasize its luxurious character. The special metals are inspired by vintage elements from the archive and reinterpreted with small screws. The popular shapes – shoulder bag in two sizes and the cross body version – make every piece in the series a season’s must-have. A special version in a brocade allover crinkle look is featured in the show, accompanied by a coat in the same pattern.
ALIA
With its classic, stable shape in two sizes, the new series reflects the elegant ‘lady bag’ design. Thanks to the visual division into several compartments, it is reminiscent of an accordion and offers ample storage space. One highlight is the structured handle cut on the top – this is inspired by a horse’s mane and makes reference to the history of AIGNER in horse-riding. The bag also comes in two special versions made from Saffiano leather in the season prints: striped in burgundy/persian blue and in a striking Moroccan pattern as ’Alia Medina’. They attract attention through their colourfulness and eye for detail, and highlight the interaction between traditional, folkloristic design elements and urban lines.
LOLA
‘Lola’ is an updated, modern interpretation of the Bohemian festival crossover, which becomes unique and elegant thanks to its high-quality metal frame and soft leather. Accents are added by the extraordinary details, such as the ruffles at the upper edge or the tassel hanger. The various shoulder strap lengths offer variability to both size versions. ‘Lola’ also comes in special versions in popular velvet and a multicolour, shimmering jacquard. Modern design is thus combined with the season’s trend fabrics to convey the mystical feel of the collection.
FELICE
The trend model of the winter season 2018: the series combines cool casualness and luxurious elegance. The clean design in three versions – saddlebag, shoulder bag and crossbody version – and metal elements such as the golden, iconographic logo screw twist closure ensure the series has an unmistakable style. The shoulder bag adapted from a cool saddlebag with chain shoulder straps comes in two high-quality special editions. The first special edition impresses with extraordinary, detailed embroidery: the greyhound motif and lines are inspired by the art deco period. The second special edition – ’Felice Stelle’ – is given a sophisticated, feminine, yet cool, touch thanks to the diamond-stitched leather with small studs. A clutch version in an e
