Throw back at the interview with Prof. Désirée van Gorp at Nyenrode Universiteit

Some time ago we had the pleasure to interview Prof.Désirée van Gorp Professor of International Business Strategies at Nyenrode Business Universiteit.

Désirée van Gorp joined Nyenrode Business Universiteit in 1999 and at the time of the interview she had the position of Professor of International Business Strategy, Associate Dean of Degree Programs and interim Dean of Nyenrode New Business School. She teaches in the field of Global Sourcing/Offshoring/Outsourcing, New technologies & Innovation and International Business & Diplomacy. Prof. Van Gorp is among others a member of the following boards: Supervisory board of Atradius and the Missing Chapter Foundation; the Advisory boards of TEDxBinnenhof, the World Trade Organization Joint Program, the Shanghai Human Resources Consulting Association and ECP.NL (the platform for e-Netherlands,, as well as on the boards of Humanity House and Cirion Foundation.

Since 1995, Désirée has been advising the public and private sector on translating (global) economic and political issues and trends into corporate strategies. Examples of
projects are: Translating EU policy, laws and regulations and WTO rulings into the strategies and day to day practice of local government authorities (e.g. provinces) and the
financial sector (e.g. banks). Counseling the government on issues related to sustainable entrepreneurship. She developed to this end a model for private-public cooperation
and implemented it in different regions in the Netherlands. She initiated and developed projects related to the networked economy and is, for example, initiator and former
member of the ‘Platform Internet voor Alledag’. The platform aims to stimulate the use of Internet in the day-to-day-practice of all people.

In 1991, Désirée became director international affairs at MKB-Nederland, where she was in charge of negotiations on international economic relations with among others the
Ministries of Economic and Foreign Affairs, European Parliament and Commission and other stakeholders. During that period she also established the EU-office of MKB-Nederland
in Brussels and was among others board member of the Foundation Export Council Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SME’s) (Bestuurslid Stichting Exportraad Midden- en
Kleinbedrijf), chairman of the Commission External Relations of the European umbrella organization for SME’s (Voorzitter Commissie Externe Betrekkingen van de Europese
Koepelorganisatie voor het Midden- en Kleinbedrijf) and member of the Export Adviescollege of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (Lid Export Adviescollege van het Ministerie van
Economische Zaken).

She studied law at Leiden University and holds a master’s degree with a specialization in international law. She started her career as assistant to Professor P.H. Kooijmans,
at that time special rapporteur to the Center for Human Rights of the United Nations, preparing the report for the Commission on Human Rights.

Prof. Van Gorp conducted in the past years research for the World Bank and the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
