Chic Peek: DIY Geniuses Geri Hirsch and Erin Falconer Share Some Easy Ways to Glam Up Your Living Space (and Your Old Accessories!)

How many times have you checked out another girl’s outfit and then mentally “pinned” everything she has on? Guilty as charged! So, instead of standing idly by making mental Pinterest boards, I decided to ask some women I find irresistibly chic to give me a peek into their closets.

In this week’s installment of Chic Peek, I’d like to introduce you to Geri Hirsch and Erin Falconer of LEAF TV. LEAF, which stands for “Living, Eating & Fashion,” consists of The. Most. Adorable. (and informative) music videos on everything from “How to Make Grilled Cheese Croutons” to “4 Steps to the Perfect Self-Tan” to “How to Layer Jewelry.” Geri and Erin, who both helm successful blogs (Geri is the voice behind the über popular fashion site Because I’m Addicted, Erin of the self-improvement site PickTheBrain) felt like there was a void in the market for how-to videos for women who want to live well, and do it with style. Thus, LEAF TV was born, over lunch at Le Pain Quotidien, naturally! Their biggest a-ha career moment so far? “The success of our shoppable series with Barney’s. That took LEAF from being a hobby to a fully funded company.” We were invited into Erin’s beach bungalow / video studio in Venice Beach. Read on, and get ready to get crafty!

A favorite dinner party tip: “Double appetizers as décor. They are great alone or mixed in with flowers, seasonal crudité is beautiful, budget friendly and most importantly delicious!”

Who needs flowers when you have veggies? Here, radishes, cucumbers, and assorted carrots smartly on display.

Their favorite summer dish: “Gazpacho! We put our twist on the classic. The perfect summer soup!”

Erin DIYs: “With a mortgage payment, I’m focused on the heftier home improvements – like re-conceiving my outdoor space, or finding the perfect marble for my kitchen island. I always taking time to find exactly the right pieces as I plan to be here for a long time. I’m still basking in the pure bliss from my new dishwasher!”

Geri in an Equipment shirt, Levi’s shorts, Elizabeth and James jacket, and Alexander Wang boots. Erin in a Levi’s Jean shirt, Blank NYC jeans, and John Fleuvog shoes.

Geri DIYs: “As a renter, it’s fun to find ways to update my space without threatening my security deposit – like mastering the perfect ‘Mix & Match’ Art Wall, adding cool wallpaper to the backsplash of a closet, hanging custom curtains & playing with really pretty floral arrangements.”

Geri in the prettiest, daintiest jewelry.

Erin on how to spunk up a neutral look: “I just got these gold platforms in Vancouver a couple of weeks ago! Denim on denim is my signature, so I try to keep it fresh by swapping in unexpected shoes. I especially love the height these give me!”

An easy DIY idea for your walls: “Framed landscape pictures. We love the idea of bringing the outdoors, indoors – and this is a great way to improve your art collection one snap at a time.”

The cozy living room of Erin’s Venice Beach bungalow, and a coffee table full of chic books and art projects.

On chalkboard paint: “We were trying to fit incorporating chalkboard paint into our ‘How To Rent-o-vate Your Kitchen’ video and the side of the fridge was the only place it would fit. We’ll do anything to get the shot.”

How cute?!

Erin’s idea behind her chic display of bath products: “Oh, you mean that big mess?! It’s everything from my signature scent, Creed Vetiver to my non-stop experimental face serums.”

Basking in the sun.

On making your own sunnies: “If it’s good enough for Chanel and Miu Miu, it’s good enough to DIY. Embellishing old sunnies forgotten in your glove compartment is a great way to create an unexpected statement piece.”
