Lady Gaga’s Longtime Stylist Is Quitting (but Don’t Worry, They’re Still BFFs. Aww)

After more than four years together, Lady Gaga and her stylist, Nicola Formichetti, are parting ways professionally, but don’t worry, nothing crazy happened. The longtime mastermind of Gaga’s high-maintenance wardrobe (she’s been known to change outfits 12 times in a day!) has so much going on that he doesn’t have time to style Gaga full-time anymore. “She’s going to be my BFF forever, but my ex-assistant Brandon [Maxwell] is heading that project,” he told WWD.

For several years, Nicola juggled his work with Lady Gaga while working as creative director of Thierry Mugler and, now, artistic director of Diesel. He’s also started working more with Uniqlo, which makes it harder to be at the pop star’s sartorial beck and call.

So, it makes sense that now is the time Lady Gaga would announce she’s moving in a new direction, stylewise, and for her new album and she plans to work with designers such as Alexander Wang at Balenciaga and Hedi Slimane at Saint Laurent.

You may be wondering: Does Nicola’s fashion exit from Gaga mean we’ll no longer get more of those totally crazy fashion moments, such as the real meat dress and beekeeper look?

I think we know that while Nicola was a huge influence over her style, she knows what she likes and will still dress to shock us, just maybe not as often. While talking about her upcoming appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards, she told WWD, “I’m going this year as a fried egg instead of hard-boiled.” I’m not exactly sure what that means, but I’m pretty excited to find out!
